Legit question. My knowledge of crypto is basically “bitcoin go brrrrrrr” so maybe im mistaken. But i do remember looking into a lot of projects when the crazy first set in and many talked about hosting websites that cant be shut down. Fighting censorship in 3rd world countries. Which is basically us now anyway. So... smarter than I pedes... is there something there?

No, blockchain is not magic. I'll explain it in plain - blockchain is a method to VALIDATE that in a CHAIN of messages none of them were changed after the fact. Nothing more nothing else, it is a way to make sure that sequence of messages, or transactions was not altered. As for the bitcoin and other "currency" like that - it is the opposite what you are looking for. Even if you forget about energy usage and transaction costs, by its nature each time you do a transaction - EVERYONE knows. Imagine each time you pass a paper dollar from hand to hand government will see the record of that. When, who, to whom, amount.
I did a little googling trying to find projects i read about. This was one of the ones that made me think it was possible. Again, not tech savvy at all. https://fsinsight.com/2020/10/01/crypto-special-report-horizen-web-3-0-platform-tar/
There is too much hype and marketing, it is very hard to say what will work and won't on a long run. All of the digital industry is fundamentally poisoned by california style "startup" approach. Too much money, too much execs, too much easy money. Anything worth a dime and in some way threatening big tech is usually bought on a spot. So, well, we'll see I guess.
