Its free and open source. Stand alone program with a mind boggling amount of options and settings. Can choose output formats and even only audio if you want. I found this after seeming every browser based solution seemed to expire with youtubes updates. It's kind of a power user thing so not for your typical "it just works!" type. Can't gush about it enough.

Set-up smart mode to determine what quality you want to download in, where to save, subtitles, etc. and paste the video URL into the program. If you have a lot of videos, you can put them into a list like in Word or Notepad and paste the whole list into the downloader.
