I don't know what it means for me to post this much personal stuff on here, but I have to vent. The events last night came out of nowhere.
My father was a very political person. It was his sports. He raised us (his kids) to be deftly argumentative (but not in a bad way). The dinner table was always full of energizing discussions and thought experiments.
However since the 2008 crash, he was in a state of constant stress. It was nonstop. The news would be on at night and he would get anxiety about the direction of this country. It was somewhat manageable, but this sort of anxiety is not good for a person.
He was extremely healthy -- went to the gym everyday and ate everything he should and nothing he shouldn't. Lab results were always clean and even surpassed the majority of those his age.
Other than the lack of sleep and stress he was under, no doctor would be able to predict any of this.
Well, flash forward to today and I suspect it was too much to bare. He passed late last night during the hours he would typically be watching the news. Went into cardiac arrest and I suspect it was catalyzed from the stress of thinking about the political climate.
I am putting it simply, but during these stressful times, don't forget that family is most important. Whatever is going on in the news is important for our country, but it doesn't mean you can't also focus on your family. When you stay up late to debate each other, and get in heated arguments, make sure you do something positive to relieve the anxiety.
For us younger folks, it's easy to stay up late with our brainfog from being so heated, but to the older folks -- don't let it get to you.
Enjoy the little detours in life.

My condolences. your dad sounds like a stand up guy. I appreciate you posting this word of caution to this community even during this personal difficult time. your dad has clearly raised a good person!
Thank you, he was.
On a positive note, his extremely left leaning friends that he would constantly spar (often ending in yelling matches and finishing the night early) have already messaged me to give their thoughts and prayers.
It might seem difficult, and it might seem counter to anything else we are experiencing at this time, but it is possible to keep friends from the opposing side. As political as he was, he managed to continue relationships despite the conflicting issues that were fundamental between him and his friends.
Don't let politics control our minds, bodies, and souls.
If it does, they won.
Sorry for your loss. :(
People, listen to this poster. Stress has an actual, physical affect on your heart. Take time out from clown world and crawl up out of the rabbit hole of this election insanity once in a while. Walk your dog, drive to the mountains, or just do some physical task.
For reals, todays the first day since the 6th my chest didnt feel like it was going to explode. I would wake up in the morning and once I "came to" my blood pressure would instantly shoot up and I'd check TD 😤
Condolences
Thank you
Sorry for your loss. Somebody mentioned fishing on a hot post earlier. Trump often goes golfing when it seems he should be flipping out in his office.
Life is just life. Politics is just a part of it.
Life is life until you introduce communism. Then the state owns your life.
Obviously you want to defend your rights to live free and enjoy life, but living to defend this can mean a lot of time wasted instead of using it on exactly what you are trying to defend.
Sorry for your loss. Losing my dad was one of the worst things to go through.
And, watch out for yourself. Grief is a sneaky fuck, it can creep up on you in ways you can't even predict. Don't fight it. We all say 'We're men, we can take it." Well, sometimes, we can't. And it's cool.
Celebrate his life. Sounds like he was one of the goods ones.
Sneak up is so true. Stupid Dr. Pepper cake at the grocery store! Never saw one before and 8 months after my Dr. Pepper loving father died saw them once. Had a good cry in the car afterwards.
My condolences to you and your family. You are spot on with your comments! Thank you for posting this.
We are here for you, sorry about the passing..
“Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” I’m sorry, man. It must be hard for you and we needed him to be a warrior against the evil that’s taking over, but at least he’s with the Lord now.
Great message. We are unable to do our civic duties if we aren't mentally and physically healthy.
Exactly. When current events cause me to feel stress, I recognize it spend a moment to center myself. Feel great afterwards and ready to handle whatever may come.
Prayers for you and your family
I agree. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my mom unexpectedly 3 weeks ago. Was waiting with seeing her till Xmas cuz of the fucking Chinavirus (I'd been to the hospital week before). Got a call to do a welfare check and found her. Nothing can buy more time, so it's sage advice to focus on time with your loved ones.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Please take the time to care for yourself too. Blessings on you, Pede.
God bless you, fren. I am so sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss.
We need to finish this for him and all the others.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
What an apt conclusion. Thank you for sharing your story which highlights the importance of a healthy mind. I, as I am sure many others, have been overstressed about what is happening. Your advice is needed at a time like this and nothing puts it better than how you did. I truly hope you find a way to become stronger facing such grief and adversity.
I’m so sorry for your father and thank you for taking the time for this gentle reminder. I’ve put my life on hold since the elections and it’s not healthy. So so sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss and this is such a great message. We all need to self care occasionally.
Care about politics at the important times that it matters but not every moment of your life.
I am so sorry for your loss, and want to thank you for taking time to share your story! This is so important. Political discourse is my family's main pastime, but this past week everyone's anxiety levels have been increasing. We all decided to step back a bit, put our technology down for periods during the day and spend some time outside, going to the gym, etc. We still keep up with major events of the day, but reading upsetting news 24/7 was starting to wear on us all. For our health and sanity's sake, it is okay if we all take a break and take care of our physical and mental health. Being informed is no good if it is negatively affecting our health!
Bless you, I'm sorry you lost your father. Thank you for this message, a lot of truth in it and I myself needed the reminder.
Hold strong. Sounds like he’s in a better place. Unfortunately he won’t see the glorious New Republic and our POTUS as it’s President - but he’ll be there in spirit.
My condolences friend. He sounds like he was a very good guy and your message to us is a powerful one. Thank you for sharing it.
This is some real information. even Jesus knew when to take a break and He was God's Son.
I am so very sorry. The news is a giant fear propaganda machine that benefits by keeping its viewers in distress, and I detest them for that. Your dad sounds like a good man. May he rest in peace.
So sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about your loss Pede. Will Pray for your strength.

Good advice. I'm sorry you lost your father. It sounds like he was a fine man and that you loved him very much.
God bless you and yours. Never give up
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my parents unexpectedly - it made me realize that every moment we can spend with our parents or children is a gift from God.
I'm sorry for your loss, may he rest in peace amid these dark times where the media is being paid by the enemy, take it easy for yourself as well

RIP Patriot. Sorry for your loss.
My sincere condolences.
Sorry for your loss. I will say an extra prayer today.
My sympathies, fren. You've hit on an often overlooked fact: stress and worry kill.
Younger years are precisely the time to get a jump on it! You have to take care of your mind in addition to body, and I'm a firm believer in things like meditation and faith. At least IME 99% of the most level based people I know have faith and and a general positive outlook... not a coincidence.
But this stuff is why I don't watch the news 99% of the time. If something big happens in the world or in the country that might have a direct effect on my life, I'll hear about it inevitably. The modern news cycle is just corporate negative clickbait titled partisan story designed to rile you up and and get page views after another after another after another after a-fucking-nother AND they actively work to make you angry and unhappy ---- it's heinous.
There's are virtually no good ways to get objective facts these days. What facts you do learn of, you do have to accept the things you can't change too, and not get angry over them; that's important, and though it may feel slightly ignorant, overall beneficial to your health.
Thank you for sharing, my sincere condolences. My elderly mum in sound mind but in poor health told me just one thing regarding all this political stress we inevitably encounter "you just have to learn how to shrug son, learn how to shrug".
Condolences. I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for being able to take time to share your story in this stressful time for you and your family. This is such a stressful time for all of that don’t support what American government is doing. May you find comfort.🙏🏼
Sorry for your loss.
