When I was in high school in the 60s Orwell was required reading.

Animal Farm was one of the only books I paid attention to. I wonder if kids still read that?

Most schools have banned reading animal farm.

Sadly true, I remember being told I had to choose another book to do a report on in high-school... also some schools have started banning the Iliad and the odyssey. They fear strong male role models / figures

Another book they also banned was To Kill A Mockingbird. Luckily I got to read it while I was in high school. Wasn't too long after that that they decided to burn it.

I hope so, sometimes I forget the content of a book but never Animal Farm.

Fuck no. Even in the very early nineties, we were reading books about the "horrors" of racism. And about literal retard oppression.

I read it in the early 70’s in high school. Back then, the Cold War was still being waged in the schools. Orwell’s book was presented to us as portraying something of what world communism would look like. Now it seems just like home.

I re-read every 10 years or so. It is almost exactly what is happening right now.

Likewise - and I’m reading it again right now - along with The Prince, by Machiavelli (for spiritual guidance) - read into that what you will

Another book I have always loved is The Once and Future King by T D White.
