Inspired by others: Not sure if you’re supposed to do this. Doxxing? Don’t really give a shit anymore. We are in a culture war. 1A. 2A. We are in this for the long-game. Everyone will know whose side you are on in short order.

I have worked every job under the sun . Forklift driver, short route delivery driver, XMAS tree lots (the worst of them all! ) line cook, fishing canneries in Alaska, DELI in NY for a year....Starbucks(ugh). Eventually I settled on computers and ended up working in the interactive software development industry (games) and ultimately started my own thing over a decade ago. . I am one of those crazy people who believes success is a result of hard work and personal responsibility, with a little luck sprinkled in..all ups and downs.

At the risk of sounding like a union rep, folks around here need to unite and align economically for their own well-being. I outsource (specific one-off tasks all the way to full projects) or partner with like-minded individuals. I am sure you can imagine; like-minded individuals are exceedingly rare in blue-state, tech focused metro areas. ( I still haven’t moved--my one other post here--Im going to by SUMMER….anyway.)

There’s this too: I have always been terrible at networking. I hate it. REAL conservatives (populist now, I suppose?) seem to prefer to just go about our business quietly. Preferring to be just be left alone. This is no longer tenable.

To the point. I cannot promise anyone anything now or ever. However, at the minimum we need to network and know each other a bit better. I have a few projects going currently and this year looks to be busy as long as this isn't the actual apocalypse. Some of the work is just a few hours contract and no more, some of its a lot more. Some large scale projects fit for a group or company.

If you have the any of the following skill sets, feel free to DIRECT MESSAAGE ME and introduce yourself:

Game programming. C, C++, Unreal, Unity, designers, producers, writers, 2D artist, 3D artists…network programmers. QA. Interests in 3D printing, table gaming, on-demand production, on demand 2D printing, graphic design, blockchain, app development, social web skills at all, graphic design.

If these skills seem a bit much, do not fear! Occasionally, we just need people who are HONEST and RESPONSBLE....Online researchers. Testers. Data Input. Usability. This is not something you need experience for. BTW, i don't care if you know certain things or everything. Who does? Most basic tech isn't really that hard to understand. Its kept complicated through terminology because it makes these douchebags feel and look special. The less you know--the better. Knowledge has become medieval again.

This is no joke. We make things and sell things that sell and are selling. We have more things to make. We need to be actively helping each other. I assure you if shit hits the fan, i will be depending on the real warriors here. Im a fighter-but not that kind. The talk a lot kind. is that a kind? Spirit warrior? I have no idea how i became the Resistance. WTF happened to the glorious 80s and 90s?

Side note--not that I am the first to bring this up...but I also have no idea why there isn’t job posting/career/entrepreneur shit here. Especially given the current environment--a pretty tough economy...are we so scared of being cancelled? I assure you if one of my financiers or publishers saw this...almost certainly POOF. But you know what? They are coming one way or the other. FUCK THEM. They have no substance. We have all the substance. They deal in platitudes. We deal in convictions.

Also---interested in tech or games? Does a tech career interest you but no clue? Are you an OLD GUY feeling worthless and confused... LIKE ME? WHATEVER. Say hi. I am tired of sitting in my basement doing nothing, crying. Do what you can do even if it’s just to put your shopping cart back. Fight back. Tech is a gun. Critical thinking skills are ammo. Others are saying similar things... Local. Stable. Grow……Dont get down. Respect friends.

Respect. I do not have programming or tech skills, but I have always wondered if I were to hang my own shingle as a financial planner / advisor for patriots if I would ever get any traction. Who knows, maybe down the road.

Yes. Certainly there is a market. Half the country is screaming they no longer wish to subsidize nonsense. Any industry fits imo. They are all filled with nonsense now.

If someone were to want to pursue a possible career change into the programming field where would you recommend they start? I'm growing sick of my career despite how it has been lucrative. Been exploring alternatives and I always had a talent for tech stuff as a kid

Java first. Lots of online, free beginner courses. Udemy. Etc. None of the good programmers that I have worked with have a college degree. Most of the bad ones do. This is just a factual statement based on my own experiences having hired or worked directly with hundreds of programmers through the years. I think its passion. Hacker types have passion.

Thanks. Any quality Java ones in particular you would point to?

Code academy website has some decent beginner courses. Pretty easy to step through. Microsoft (msdn?) Has a number.of c sharp, etc video courses. You can go through these in very little time and pretty easily determine if its for you or not.

as a .NET snob I would've said c# but it's funny how much of my development has shifted over to JavaScript (Dynamics). Working through a book about tensorflow.js at the moment, seeing how far this crazy language can be stretched.
