If you are having tough luck finding a job, unemployable, the Feds will give you one and you are sucked into the Matrix, for which there is no escape. "Authoritarianism" is not in itself evil. It's how it's used and what consequences come from using one's authority. The world is not black and white, and the realization of nuance comes with experience, that is why nobody under 40 should be allowed to involved in the policy making process.
