I bet most of these people were the "fuck the system" types just a few years ago, and now they're eager to put their brown shirts on and be the enforcers for their favorite politicians. Completely morally bankrupt.
I was talking to my boss about this kind of this and he knew some people who lived in Hungary when the Soviets took over - that Communism thrives on people snitching on each other because they'd get favors for doing so (because living conditions were absolute hell) and there was absolutely no sense of unity.
