Here's the deal - 2020 proved to me that everyone loves the "underdog" in their media, but they hate the idea of being the outsider in real life.
V for Vendetta is my favorite example. In the comic book and movie, V is beloved as a symbol of freedom from an oppressively evil government. The Guy Fawkes mask has been adopted as a symbol of standing against tyranny. V was ultimately victorious in utterly destroying government property.
Now think of all the people you know that gobble that movie right up. They fucking LOVE it. But when given the opportunity to be a V in 2020/2021, they proved they were always gigantic faggots.
People have lives to worry about. Their pensions, their houses, their cars, their family and friends, etc. People are creatures of habit and love the familiar and comfortable. Being ostracized by the establishment, even being hunted like criminals when you've done nothing wrong, is not easy. The worst case scenario of actually going to war with the establishment when it might get you killed is especially not fun. The sad thing is that the breaking point will only come when people are made uncomfortable to the extreme -- namely that the majority are poor and can't put food on their tables, or even worse are all homeless. Bread and circuses work for a reason, and when the establishment takes those away is when you'll finally have an uprising, but never before then.
I think that's the real clincher, and the biggest difference between the 1770s and now. Life now is comfortable. And our rulers have figured out the precise level of comfort necessary to keep people from wanting to make a fuss about anything. Back in the day, when you were shitting in an outhouse in sub-freezing temperatures, or half your kids died from the pox, and you were scrubbing fireplace soot from every surface in the house four times a week before heading outside to shovel up cow shit for fertilizer, life was hard and miserable most of the time already. So the idea of fighting for something better wasn't that big of a stretch. Now we all have central heating and flushing toilets and big screen TVs with Netflix and have food delivered to our doors with a few touches on our phone screens. As long as we can keep all that, the State knows they can turn whatever screws it wants so long as you keep feeling like fighting for something better will make your own life harder and less comfortable.
Yes, I agree, that's exactly the problem. Middle-class lifestyle is A TRAP, SET FOR YEARS, TO INDUCE GENERATIONS OF PEOPLE TO EXPECT COMFORTABLE LIVING AS THE NORM.
Never in human history have so many lived so well for so long.
I think the solution is to move towards a quasi-militaristic version of our current lives, where a certain level of discomfort is 'built-in' and a way to ensure that you never get so comfortable that you are not ready to stand up and defend the homeland.
Right now we are a bunch of NEET-equivalents who have no hope in hell surviving off the grid, countering enemy incursions, or anything like that.
Mandatory military service? I know that doesn't sound comfy-wumfy, but honestly, I'd choose that over USSA and Comnada any day.
I'd elect for a middle option, myself. Self-sufficiency. Marx actually pointed out the real problem in modern society: working for someone else removes us too far from our labor to find real joy in it. His solution was give everyone corporate ownership. Sounds good on paper. Horrible in practice, since even he admitted the only way to enforce such an arrangement is through a central dictatorship.
The real solution is moving back to self-sufficiency, which means making sacrifices in areas of comfort, but restores our freedoms and reconnects us directly with the product of our labor, and becomes ever easier as technology progresses.
Exactly this. Self-sufficiency is the true American dream. Always has been. 🌎👽👈👽 (didn't have astronauts so you get aliens. Also, wth do we not have gun emojis?)
I like that idea, and i agree is ideal, but how are you going to organize hundreds of millions of people into doing that? Implementing that is impossible assuming a nation-state is in any way going to look out for its people.
One thing is for sure though, the open free market where the descendants of aristocracy and toobigtofail banks is a rigged system that cannot go on. Too few people had too good of a head start in the "free market" and the wealth disparity has only grown more dramatic in recent decades.
Its not so much the headstart as it is the continued corruption. Mom and Pop get shut down, corporations continue to trade. You cant get the loicense, but they can. Stuff like that is what really cements their grip on wealth and power. Generational wealth is what we want for everyone, but corruption locks it in for the select few and prevents us plebs from rising above our stations.
Edit : and yeah "too big to fail" is something i never want to hear again. Individual executives could very easily have been punished even if it were necessary to protect the bank - which it isnt.
The way would be to do it, modeling it for others. Throw it up online for everyone to see.
It's my dream. I only lack the money and land.
Once I manage to accomplish it for myself, I'd offer other people, probably starting with close friends, the opportunity to come live on my land for a while until they can build up enough capital to go buy their own. Rinse and repeat.
And Christianity is villianized. The vatican is def steeped in pedos and money launderers but everyone loves to see God or Christians portrayed in a dark way.
I skimmed through the synopsis of the dystopian movies I have, so far we are living in a mix of ; 1984 -censorship, Brave New World -drugs and porn/sex, Fahrenheit 451 -book burning, Equilibrium -prescription drugs ...only thing that hasn't happened is Omega Man - vaccine kills humanity and turns people to mutants lol
Pretty much everyone is on Captain America's side in the Civil War. He's a libertarian (unfortunately the actor is a commie).
Iron Man agreed with the authoritarian accords. Every superhero had to be put on a list and could only do what the government allows them to. The avengers weren't allowed to vote on this
Vision gives Wanda a stay at home order "for her own good". Thunderbolt Ross takes advantage of the murder of black Panthers father to make Black Panther hunt the governments enemies. Peter Parker, who is just a kid, is brainwashed into thinking "Captain America Bad" and falls behind in school. Meanwhile everyone forgets about God/Thor
But that's just a movie. Lockdowns, masks, vaccination records, rigged elections, BLM, teaching race Theory to kids is perfectly good
This comment is so good. Black Widow, who is on authoritarian Iron Man’s side, says, “What makes you think Thor and Hulk would be on our side?” But that’s kind of the end of that discussion.
That’s so goddamn true. I always think that when you have the big tech, big pharma, and majority of politicians on your side...you’re not part of the revolution. You damn sure won’t be causing any change.
I have exactly this thought, too. Nothing says "power to the people" like total government control 🙄
I've really been thinking about the movie "JFK" the past few days. This shit's been going on a long time. It's just now being exposed on any sort of big level. Or trying to be at least.
I was just thinking about this today. Everyone knows what a dystopian society looks like and everyone pretends like they think it’s horrible, but then you stop and look around us right now, and not only are they celebrating in it, they are actively participating in bringing it about!
Even the Watchowski bro...sis... whatever they are, wrote two of the most well-received movies about dystopian futures (The Matrix and V For Vendetta) and in real-life, they're both raging Commies. Baffling.
Problem is, they fell in love with it, romanticized it. The have Stockholm Syndrome for their own downfalls. How I see it, will be more like the movie Hellraiser. They will solve the Lament Configuration (the puzzle box) and have instant regret for doing so, but some will enjoy the suffering and spreading it, much like the cenobites.

Fuck 'em.
They want to vicariously play the hero, not pay by being one.

Lol not anymore. Definitely used to be there. Soon you won't even have the swords or the hammer or anything.
Such pansies. It's a fact of life that we must defend ourselves against evil people and feed ourselves. Guns are handy for both.

... and they take the blue pill.
They love V for Vendetta because the government in that movie is portrayed as a fascist "right wing" one.
And Christianity is villianized. The vatican is def steeped in pedos and money launderers but everyone loves to see God or Christians portrayed in a dark way.

That last one is trending
Omega Man?
I wouldn’t trust a guy who believes the earth needs depopulating to give me a vaccine lol
covid
AKA I am Legend.
That's just real life with a few name changes and the curtain of 'alienation' (a Marxist concept) pulled back a little.
Hunger games really comes to mind
Boggles the mind doesn't it?

Or the Mutant Control Acts in X-Men. In real life, the entire left would be falling over themselves for that shit.
This comment is so good. Black Widow, who is on authoritarian Iron Man’s side, says, “What makes you think Thor and Hulk would be on our side?” But that’s kind of the end of that discussion.
They're all rooting for Luke Skywalker and voting for Palpatine. Stupid bastards.
As a fan of dystopian stories I am shocked people are literally begging to make them all true at once.
They can't ever seem to connect the dots. Or get off of social media kong enough to try.
Right?!?

Ya no shit look at Cyberpunk 2077 game is a fuckin prophecy
So true.
Lmfao so true. I hate how true it is, but I’m laughing anyways
Cheering attacking free speech protesters... claiming they are white supremacists... even when the leaders of the protest groups are not white.
This is the most cogent thread I have seen all weekend! 🧠
Seriously right?
I know right?!
It really is clown world
Nailed it
