What is happening here reminds me of what happened in egypt

Government shut down the internet and state media demonizing protesters

They should have been prepared for this.

Plans fail immediately. Planning is priceless!

They were, to a point. Gab has the advantage of already having had this happen.

IMO, the more the merrier. The internet needs some fresh blood out there.

Gab should look into becoming a webhost since they have the basic infrastructure.

Interesting point. And it makes me wonder exactly what kind of deals our fearless leader is up to?

What’s left GAB?

Gab hosts their own servers so they can't be deplatformed.

You know what's really funny? Parlor is the equivalent of milquetoast Tim Pool but for the right. By doing this, more conservatives are going to use Gab as an alternative and Gab is far more supportive of the right.

suggestion: when you "rebuild from scratch" do it based on a P2P architecture like Bitchute uses, so you CANT be taken down again.

I think they mean redeploying, no significant changes, especially to architecture. "Rebuild" as in replicate the same system but on different servers.

A week to install everything, restore data, change configs, test things work seems reasonable. They said they deliberately kept things independent of Amazon-specific features. They may have tried this rebuild exercise in the past, but it's a bit of a luxury to spend resources on these things when you've got day to day business to attend to.

Once they're up again somewhere else they can think about changes. Bitchute's P2P is a way for them to save money on video content distribution, it does not affect how their core web site is hosted. For example, if they were using Amazon they could be kicked off like Parler and would have to find a new hosting provider.

thats true, but they could also use P2P for their web site architecture too if they wanted/needed to - the technology exists. Thats my point.

Thats the last stop, and we are all going to reach it sooner rather than later.

P2P CANNOT be stopped on a tech basis. That still leaves other vulnerabilities, and it does bring real performance limitations, but at least its secure forever. Just wait until Parler and GAB get taken down by the inevitable DDoSs. Again, only P2P is impervious to that.

I have no disagreement. In the short term they can get re-hosted. In the long term they should look into P2P. I assume they've considered the trade-offs.

On the plus side, ALL of AWS's competitors are cheaper than it.

And now they're more reliable.
