I was there the crowd was huge but the crowd at the ellipse was about 250k. I carefully kept track of where people gathered and later figured out the aera (24 acres) and then using crowd densities figured it to be 250k. Not trying to doom. But there aren’t a million people in that picture. Granted that number doesn’t include any people that were else where in DC.

Per google map distance, the street side is 1,500 ft, going along the side of 17th to just past the monument is 1200ft, 1500*1200=1,800,000

The crowd was super dense. I was in front of the porta potties for a bit and everyone was pressed against each other. There was little movement there. Took me 20 minutes to get from there to just outside the pic. Even behind the ports potties, it was still very very dense, with barely a path to walk anywhere. There was a lot more than 250k people there. A lot.

Edit: just in the 900ft of the road 100ft wide, thats 90000 if we use 1 person for square ft in that zone. It was that dense in there I wouldn't say 90k is too far high for there. Edit: one source says 2.5ft per person for a packed crowd, so that area alone would have 36k

Edit 3: If we use a 4.5sq ft per person for the whole area, that 1800000/4.5= 400k. Still think there was more than that.
