National guard are needed in their home base. There is no logistical need to keep them there. DC is surrounded by military and has a marine barracks within a quarter mile of the Supreme Court. In the 9/11 emergency situation DC had troops on every street corner we with surface to air missile launchers within very short order.
I agree with the optics because the left loves to play games. It's that there really isn't any convenient place to house 7000 soldiers. Not only that but they won't have their rapid response soldiers in their home state for emergencies. I can see the leftards doing this for a few years, maybe a month but it's unsustainable for long term.
