Oddly enough, no. For wireless it's the carriers that control it and Apple just has to deem their devices as "not a compatible mobile device".

Yes, the carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc) are legally bound to push out the alerts. Even if you turn the notifications off on your phone you will still get Presidential alerts. However, the agreement with the FCC only goes as far as the carriers and then its up to your device as to whether you can get them or not. If Apple were to actually go through with this though it would probably piss off more than just Trump supporters because that system is used for a lot of things that normies would most definitely want. Everything from amber alerts to weather events.

They may simply change the default setting to “off”, it is on currently.

Hmm I wonder what his source is. Not that I disagree with what he's saying.

You have control over it.

Actually, the newer operating systems on iPhone allow cellular updates. I forget when they switched that on, but it was recently.

I turned off my auto update for operating system updates. Then I made sure of that in my notifications at the very bottom that my emergency alerts were turned on. I don’t know what this is all about, but I just wanted to make sure people knew to avoid any Fuckery!

just turn it off to be safe! rather safe than sorry. if Lin is larping, no harm done in turning off your auto update and if he’s right.. then you’ve saved yourself from not having communication with the President.

National security threat. Apple needs to be shut down if this is true.

As with the Note7, I believe they can just force it.
