There are plenty of alternatives to aquire needed goods. Thrift and antique stores. Yard sales. Craigslist. Ask family, neighbors, and friends. Learn to repair things and shop curbside. Share, don't buy.
Start your own lending library co-op group for media, tools, and toys. Barter with others for items and services.
I started my own streaming by using Plex. I own my media, I control my library. Best part of all: ~90% of my media was bought used. I didn't give a dime to Hollywood.
Most interesting thing about my library: 95% of my films are made before 2009. I wonder what could have happened in America around 2009 that made me hate Hollywood?
Best movies where the 50s to 90s for me. But still enjoy movies made today, nothing changed in 2009 to Hollywood that was not already there in the years before.

Like you, I've been enjoying movies from past eras (not so long ago!) that don't cater to this new SJW Critical Theory messaging.
But I wanted to share that the new Midway movie, about war in the Pacific Theater was awesome. Checks all the boxes. Fully wholesome and uplifting war movie, and more historical accuracy than the 1970's version. I loved it, and wanted to make sure you don't miss out.
Very cool. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely check it out. I’m always looking for new good movies.
Same here. Love my Plex library. Watch what I want when I want. When I see an older movie or something I don't have yet, I can find it. All of it's HD and in 5.1 Dolby. Watching a movie at home in surround is better than a theater. I think movie theaters will go the way of Blockbuster. Weird that Hollywood would support a scam like covid that's killing concerts and live events, and their movie industry.
A lending library for games would be great for family night. Instead of a movie, just try some board games. To be fair, I enjoy movies quite a bit, but the truth is they have a lot of things in them that promote, let's call it "Hollywood values." Not just dirty language, but promiscuity, skimpy clothing, bratty kids, the dumb dad stereotype. It wouldn't be a bad thing to be more choosy about which movies we watch, and try some board games or something instead. Or go outside for games or hiking, in case we need to be in shape in the future.
