Yes. I popped a vitamin and a couple cloves of garlic. I also got a one gallon waterbottle so I am drinking lots of tap water.

I'm only here to whine about my own "loss of taste" (and to let you know you're not alone). I got the flu last March, the week before the "slow the spread" bs began. It wasn't much but it left me with a sinus infection, which grew to include an ear infection. 11 months later, I'm still battling both but I've been doing some things the last month or so that has me winning the battle finally. Originally, I lost my sense of taste in my whole mouth, that went away once the initial flu went away. Oddness of oddness though, once I started to finally get the crap flushed out of me, I again lost my sense of taste but this time, it is only half of my mouth that is tasteless. Food on the left, all tastes normal, food on the right, flavorless.

So... moral of my story... once I realized I has the sinus/ear infecction going on summer was coming and I thought the sun and fresh air would clear me out, but, while it held it at bay all summer, as soon as fall arrived and I lost my time in the sun each day, it came on strong. I eventually had to retreat from life for about six weeks as I focused on treating my sinus and ear problems. Finally, it is starting to lose the battle (yay). My warning, stay on top of stuff, don't do as I did and think it'll just get booted out on it's own. I've never had anything hang on this long in my body, and mostly it is my own fault for not jumping on it early on before it grew to be a beast. Don't be like me!!!

Well, I am sorry for your battle with the Wuhan Flu! Fren! https://i.maga.host/b3Kt3ZE.png Basking in the sun is wise because during the Spanish Flu, doctors only knew basics; besides masks and self-isolation measures, they all told patients that sunlight is the best medicine.

Mucinex helped me. And lots of hot baths and showers. In addition to vitamin C, vitamin D, and kefir milk. The mucus was my biggest issue. Really weighs down the lungs

Is there anything you can still taste?

wanderingUlysses [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

The tastes are very muted so I can only sense them so slightly, they are like tasting a memory. My mouth is numb and tingly.

Can you taste sour foods? Bitter? MSG?

3
wanderingUlysses [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Nothing. Nothing on the top of my tongue; I can kinda taste on the bottom of the very sides of my tongue, but it is so muted, it is like I am not even tasting at all.

Except for when I chewed on a couple of cloves of garlic. I felt the sharpness of that plant, but that is only because garlic is so strong!

Just that I am now capable of eating a clove of garlic plain, like a grape, even when I can taste its sharpness, shows you how muted my taste is now.

I felt the granules of salt and how it makes one's mouth feel. That is my sense of taste, which is strange!

Update: I just tried lemon juice concentrate, which affected me the same way as garlic; I can taste the sourness only on the bottom of the very sides of my tongue, but not ontop.

I had "it" in early November. It was no big deal for me. I had a constant headache for a solid week, and gushing nosebleeds daily. My sense of smell got wonky first, followed by taste - neither went away entirely, it was just really weird and muted and like you mentioned, specific to certain kinds of tastes.

If my Lord blesses me with a wife, then I just wanna be able to taste her cooking.

Muted is the perfect word to describe how my taste is like! Muted!

&& constant headache with gushing nosebleeds, eh? Guess I better buckle up!

I know very few people that have had "it", but it's been different for all of them so your mileage will vary

Came down and poured my bowl of oats for breakfast at 04:00. Could not taste the cinnamon, which doesn't mean much because I require a lot. So I thought to myself, how can I test my taste? Popped a handful of large grain salt on my tongue. Nothing. Told my Pa. Told me to try sugar. Popped a handful of sugar on my tongue. Nothing. I am not concerned, but I truly believe I got the bug. I already messaged all of those whom I have seen within the last 14 days. && I also made an appointment for later today at a testing center with my Pa.

Sorry to hear that pede. But as long as your not 80 yrs old or have a compromised immune system you’ll be good to go in about 10 days. You will feel like shit tho. Common flu symptoms. Keep taking your vitamins!

I came down with it on New Years Day. The worst part for me was a 24 hour fever with aches and chills. After New Years Day, the typical symptoms set in for me. Some congestion, cough, and no taste or smell. I just got my taste and smell back 2 days ago and cough is slowly but surely going away. I took 2 packs of emergen-c every other day or so. Tried to stay hydrated but the whole no sense of taste or smell exacerbated my lack of appetite so it was super hard for me to eat or drink at all until 2 days ago.

Frontline Doctors suggest the following early treatment,

  • ZINC (important)
  • Vitamin D (extremely important if you do not presently take it)
  • a ZINC ionophore (hydroxychloroquine, EGCG, quercetin, lots of green tea)
  • Vitamin C (anecdotally known to fight cold and influenza)

Loss of smell and taste is also a symptom of ZINC deficiency. You want to take ZINC for sure and vitamin D 4000IU and what ever ionophore you can get.

The most effective ZINC is Zinc Sulfate from a bottle with drops applied to the tongue. Daily 220mg-440mg in drops. Don't take ZINC with dairy, that absorbs it and reduces uptake.

For the ionophore,

  • Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is the best. It is not unsafe unless you have really bad heart problems, but even then risk is so slight it is likely to be COVID hysteria. Physicians have been prescribing it for years without even testing or even asking about heart disease. But if your doctor does not offer it, two over the counter supplements have laboratory-proven ZINC ionophore activity:
  • EGCG (the active ingredient in green tea) is ~75% as effective as HCQ. So If you see a dose of 200mg HCQ, / 0.75 ~= 250mg. Find a quality EGCG extract take that, or drink lots of green tea.
  • Quercetin is shown to be ~50% as effective as HCQ. So 200mg HCQ ~= / 0.5 = 400mg. Quercetin capsule doses can be 1000mg so no problem.
