That guy is my son. You can bet there was a civil war in our family when he said he wanted to marry her. It caused so much division that his father and I were treated like crap at the wedding by her and her entire family. I did everything I could to stop him from marrying her, but free will is a thing, and he made his choice. I'm convinced if he only stayed in college long enough to get his bachelor's in engineering he would have made it out unscathed. A PhD requires many years in the brainwashing system. We fight to this day to get his mind back.
Best of luck in your effort friend. As an academic myself I can say that most of these academic types are very insecure people. You basically learn in your phd that the only thing that is truth is what your peers agree upon..... You know because they're the smartest people 🙄
Try a different angle man. Take him hunting or something that encourages his individuality - get him out of the circle jerk world he's in. You can experience freedom outside of politics.
I wish. When he got married ha handed my husband back every fishing pole and gun we ever bought him. His wife convinced him that part of his life was over. Was hoping he would have a son to bring those hobbies back, but he has two girls now. We will keep trying all angles we can. If the world keeps heating up our family will be ready to push through difficult times, they may look to us then
It's still in there. People also revert back to their roots as they get older. He sounds like he's still relatively young. I'm guessing early 30 to mid 30s. Keep telling him you just want some father son time. Play the - memories are going to be what I have left as I get older card 😅

Good advice and, yep, he's 32. We will never give up on him... no man left behind!!!
