The irony of gab posting this on Twitter

Gilead 176 points ago +180 / -4

Rub salt in the wound

79
Slavik777 79 points ago +80 / -1

Then take the salt out of the wounds, then burn the fields and sprinkle said salt all over the fields.

true decimation

8
RolandDelacroix 8 points ago +8 / -0

I want more than 1/10.

3
prayinpede 3 points ago +3 / -0

Well historically the other 9/10 were taken as slaves

6
GopnikGod 6 points ago +6 / -0

I thought I heard Decimation was an army punishment? If a Legion performed poorly, the commander would select 1/10 of the Legion and have the other 9/10 slaughter them as punishment.

Not sure if I'm right, or if it necessarily would have helped with morale. But, yeah. Romans.

2
REDMARAUDER 2 points ago +2 / -0

Sorta. You were only thrown in that group if you deserted or disobeyed orders. Then you had a 10% chance of being executed. The other 90% were given less ideal rations.

Helps get exposure

-34
cmaurras -34 points ago +5 / -39

They really should get their site working before getting exposure. I haven't been able to load anything in days.

edit: what I mean is that people are getting there and hitting cloudflare errors, I'm not saying they are doing a bad job, just that scaling a site sometimes requires you to slow down marketing for a moment.

78
IWanttotalknow 78 points ago +78 / -0

That's utterly unfair. Over 750% increase in traffic. The amount of work they have to do to make things smooth will be insane, given they run all their own stuff, all their own hardware. It's not like they can just talk to AWS and hand over a bag of cash. I've got faith in those guys those, so a little patience is fine, and I've been able to get it to load without much effort, but it still times out a lot.

15
infojunkie07 15 points ago +15 / -0

how are they making money?

40
RolandDelacroix 40 points ago +40 / -0

We are paying for Pro, because it's the last place conservatives can meet en masse online, and it's our duty to support them.

9
Aoikaze2000 9 points ago +9 / -0

Let's just hope they stay that way.

6
BaxterTheWanderDog 6 points ago +6 / -0

everyone who can should get a paid account to help them out - its weird though, you can only do a bank draft, because everyone has blocked their funding access.

2
Slippinjimmies 2 points ago +3 / -1

They should allow crypto

6
ProfessorRomendev 6 points ago +6 / -0

I tried upgrading to apro account last night, but I couldn’t log in, lol.

The moment everything works fine I’ll log on and help them out though. I’m gonna stsrt using Dissenter too, just to help get some more content on the extension

2
AaronPaolilli 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you run A/V make sure that you make an Exception to Dissenter, Otherwise it will tag it as a Trojan (I assure you it is not). My AV Kaspersky kept deleting it from my System. I got mad and deleted Kaspersky.

1
nutmeg 1 point ago +2 / -1

I'll do that if I can ever log on again! LOL!

21
sonofliberty79 21 points ago +21 / -0

They are taking donations, selling merch, offering pro subscriptions, and it's up to us to put our money where our mouth is and support them as best we can. This war is fought on many fronts, please if you value what they are doing then help support them.

12
JackOfDiamonds 12 points ago +12 / -0

Do they not sell any ads? I'm sure MyPillow would pay for a banner.

16
SordidPontification 16 points ago +16 / -0

That's a great idea...

...when you haven't been deplatformed from literally all payment processors, ad sites, ad auctions, etc.

And before you ask, they do have their own promo/influencer setup if you have a pro account. It's made increasingly more difficult when they can't run credit cards or anything other than, as u/BaxterTheWanderDog pointed out: Bank drafts and mail in checks.

Think about the implications of that. The left ripped out every economic method Gab had of making money. They're still afloat because of people mailing in checks.

Fuck the left. They don't want to deplatform us. They want to ruin us.

13
Choppermagic 13 points ago +13 / -0

no, they will all move too and complain about other platforms not giving them a voice. That's what SJWs do...they move in and destroy and then move again always complaining like they are oppressed.

14
JackOfDiamonds 14 points ago +14 / -0

I would LOVE for some SJWs to set up accounts on Gab thinking they are going to take it over and end up getting overwhelmed and swamped with comments calling them idiots so they can feel what it's like to be a conservative basically anywhere else.

5
SordidPontification 5 points ago +5 / -0

I think they tried with the faux Nazi bullshit.

They'd post some really nasty stuff then report it to Gab's hosting providers, payment processors, etc. Lots of that crap was on new accounts that had few followers.

That's how the left works. They shill for causes they know are just bad enough that the site hosting it will get shut down but not bad enough that they'll get caught and go to jail themselves.

1
Workhorse101 1 point ago +1 / -0

They've been trying to do that on Parler but they are massively outnumbered and get squashed like the losers they are.

1
Choppermagic 1 point ago +1 / -0

no, because they would be confronted with facts and logic, not just name calling like SJWs do.

7
deleted 7 points ago +7 / -0
5
Belleoffreedom 5 points ago +5 / -0

Oh, they survive, all right. They just get persuaded, and change their minds. Hence the entire Walkaway movement.

4
ProfessorRomendev 4 points ago +4 / -0

I’m pretty sure that’s actually been proven. Less moderation equals more right wing content

5
NotDangerousGame 5 points ago +5 / -0

Well, fuck em.

6
cmaurras 6 points ago +6 / -0

What I meant, is that if the site doesn't load and people go there, they won't stay. I've been staying there despite the issues because I believe in what they are doing and I know they will get their stuff working eventually. It's just not very sticky right now because of the scaling issues.

1
AaronPaolilli 1 point ago +1 / -0

I have been on Gab.com since FaceBook kicked me off because the Oath Keepers I was hanging out with were talking about starting another Group and setting me as one of the Mods. I then created a Business Page for my Company, Amuslin Games and it's First Product Line. A couple Days later I had been Temporarily Banned, and needed to provide my License and SSC as proof it was me in order to get reinstated. That's a Recipe for Identity Theft. Screw that Noise! Anyways, I have seen Gab.com at its best and it is a really Great Platform. Just give them Time to Stabilize and you'll love it, I promise!

3
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 3 points ago +3 / -0

Who is worth following over there? I am having trouble finding people right now, but when it stars going smooth who should I look for?

3
IWanttotalknow 3 points ago +3 / -0

Hard to find with the site problems. I just look for Styxhexenhammer first, since he's like the king of alt tech. Sargon, Tim Pool, Cassandra Fairbanks, etc. That should be enough to look at their followers and see who they follow, and you can look for familiar names.

3
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thanks.

Edit: when Sargon is only following 23 people, this is going to be slow going.

4

uh yeah you try handling millions of people trying to sign up on probably low gighertz servers because Gab doesn't have the money twitter does.

3
Pederella 3 points ago +3 / -0

They aren't doing marketing. The other rabid techs are doing it for them and won't slow their insanity.

3
Rooks 3 points ago +3 / -0

NO one could predict when you are gonna get an influx of MILLIONS of members. Each server costs thousands, often 10s of thousands to deploy. You don't just one day say "hey, I think the world is going to go bat crazy tomorrow, lets spend $100k on equipment just in case."

2
cmaurras 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm responding to "Helps get exposure", and saying they can take a break from getting exposure right now. I'm well aware of what happens when scaling a public website.

Just like reddit

13
ThisIsMyTruth 13 points ago +13 / -0

Reddit is so sad now. Was my bastion for free time and accidentially finding really interesting stuff by accident all the time.

Now every single sub is pushing left wing nonsense. Even publicfreakouts has to be about how every Trumper is asshole... Every got damn post in almost every single sub is left's bullshit propaganda.

I feel bad for the few subs like, askhistorians and the smaller niche subs that are still pretty damn good.

R/science became climate change narrative. R/JoeRogan became hating on Joe for being *not hardcore progressive R(insertNameOfVideoGame) PR management control to silence negative feedback. R/documentaries - trash and progressive hack documentaries only.

3
DivvyDivet 3 points ago +3 / -0

Reddit has become a site where subs are just ads posing as content. The few subs trying to stay legit get banned.

2
Workhorse101 2 points ago +2 / -0

We still have kia2 and Tucker_carlson subs which are 100% based and you get to stamp on the odd leftist retard who turn up.

6
Aoikaze2000 6 points ago +6 / -0

Sadly, all the other communities on reddit are going to slowly die off in the mean time =/

4
ProfessorRomendev 4 points ago +4 / -0

Once we get the non political .wins up and running, we’ll become the real reddit

4
Aoikaze2000 4 points ago +4 / -0

just take a note from Gab and make sure you're on your own datacenter with the ability to use more than one ISP.

Perhaps the only way to save the net is to build our net as a superset?

3
ProfessorRomendev 3 points ago +3 / -0

Absolutely. I have to imagine the Gods (Mods) are working on some things behind the scenes, as it’s only a matter of time before they come for us.

6

The more dissident right has known this for many years. Vox Day has been speaking about it for years now, and as well has ensured to follow it for his ventures.

9
NealKenneth 9 points ago +9 / -0

Why the hell are we still counting on centralized sites?

Decentralize already! Bitcoin, Ethereum etc. have been around for like a decade...surely we have a decentralized platform by now that's like Twitter, right?

2
Unet0xNullPtr 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's not perfect but you can host static webpages on IPFS. You could theoretically make those into nodes like Bittorrent nodes in order to host content & interact on the networks.

2
prospektor 2 points ago +2 / -0

They learned the hard way, or rather: were taught the hard way. They lost everything and got totally deplatformed and banned from everything, I actually thought they were finished and would give up. But they pulled through, much respect. But being unable to rely on services like Amazon to easily scale up server needs is pretty inconvenient, of course, and they are also running a huge risk investing into their own new server infrastructure, when they have no idea what the future brings. If people flock to Parler or a new, third solution in the future, they will be left with useless servers. They are really risking a lot and working hard, just following their beliefs into an unknown future.

1
Workhorse101 1 point ago +1 / -0

As long as they can scale up and offer a smooth fast experience their anonymous free speech platform is going to thrive. I have no doubt about that.

1
JS_Mill 1 point ago +1 / -0

Facebook and Amazon Web Services have massive server farms all over the country. You just cannot create a massive infrastructure overnight.

49
SuckMyAnusTwitter 49 points ago +51 / -2

Exactly!

They have seen a 753% INCREASE in traffic In the last 24 hours alone.

They will get there- CEO (based Christian pede) has been building this up and expecting This for awhile: just takes time.

They also have GabTV, GabChat and Gabvideo on their site and are coming out with a Gab phone:

They have an amazing opportunity here. Give them a couple- few weeks to adjust to literally millions and millions signing up and coming to their site:

8
Lookthething 8 points ago +8 / -0

I am going pro once my physical crypto wallet comes in the mail. We need to support them, God bless Andrew Torba

6

A Gab phone? Is it a smartphone?

4
SuckMyAnusTwitter 4 points ago +6 / -2

Yeah, full on smart phone.

3
Deadline 3 points ago +3 / -0

Well that's interesting. I've been wondering about a solution to the Android problem. I'm too reliant on smartphone features to ever drop them, meaning I'm at the mercy of Google, even if I get around to disconnecting from all their other services. A Gab phone could fix that, so there's something to look into.

0
SuckMyAnusTwitter 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yeah I feel that. If it’s a worthy smart phone I’ll ditch iPhone for it with a quickness.

0
SuckMyAnusTwitter 0 points ago +2 / -2

30
SuckMyAnusTwitter 30 points ago +32 / -2

report in epoch times today shows they’ve seen a 753% increase in traffic in the last 24 hours. They are adjusting and adding 10 more servers alone as we speak.

give them a bit to adjust to literally millions of people coming to their site all around once.

Give it a week. Gab is the way. They’ve been preparing for this and building up for some time. They also have GabTV and gab chat and will soon have a gab phone. Patience- they will get it . https://link.theepochtimes.com/mkt_app/free-speech-platform-gab-reports-753-percent-increase-in-traffic-in-24-hours_3650640.html

6
Lookthething 6 points ago +6 / -0

Maybe Trump will eventually donate the big bucks to help them out.

1
prospektor 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's a bummer they have been banned from all payment processors. If every Trump voter could easily donate just $1, it would help immensely.

3
Unet0xNullPtr 3 points ago +3 / -0

This is exactly why cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin & Ethereum exists.

Fuck centralization.

25
christoff25 25 points ago +25 / -0

Gab has already been through what Parler is dealing with now they had their servers previously hosted on Microsoft Azure which is Microsoft version of AWS. The MSM smeared the hell out of Gab when the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting happened and everyone said they were Fringe Crazies. I have to give Torba credit he has no quit!!! He just put his head down and went to work to free himself and his company from the Yolk of these authoritarian Big Tech Companies!

15
maga_mama_757 [S] 15 points ago +15 / -0

Yes, he has a great video explaining some of what they went through years ago and how they responded. It's actually really inspiring.

8
FormerGraveheart 8 points ago +8 / -0

How is he funding all of this?

14
Lookthething 14 points ago +14 / -0

Users! All from donations, pro memberships, and merchandise off their store (which is hosted on their own shoppify infrastructure)

9
FormerGraveheart 9 points ago +9 / -0

Interesting. It can be done without ads!

1
Unet0xNullPtr 1 point ago +1 / -0

Gab needs ads. I understand how nice it is for them to not host them but Gab needs to grow as big as it possibly can.

1
Lookthething 1 point ago +1 / -0

I disagree, but how would they do ads when all of big tech has cancelled them already? Google ads and Amazon ads are out of the question. They don't want ads for many reasons though

3
Unet0xNullPtr 3 points ago +3 / -0

Here's hoping they make enough to sustain themselves.

I don't actually need to hope though with the massive influx of new users & premium buyers!

Any better connection speed, etc after upgrading to Pro? If not, I think I will just donate $$ instead.

10
Lookthething 10 points ago +10 / -0

No, there are other benefits though like being able to post videos on their video hosting site. There are other benefits but I can't remember.

The other night the site was so smooth, tons of engagement, I hope the site can catch back up so everyone else can experience that. The UI is smoother than any other tech site imo.

6
MMYouKnow1 6 points ago +6 / -0

They don’t have credit card processing so I paid with an eCheck. Not active yet. Better connection speed is not listed as one of the benefits though. I have see them communicate that they had a huge influx at 5AM, which they dealt with and then another mid morning, which they are also dealing with. Sounds like everyone is jumping to Gab.

1

Thanks for the help! I just registered an account. I would like to see the price of the Gab.com stock.

2
ImCooCooForCovfefe 2 points ago +2 / -0

No clue. When they offered it years ago it was 1$ per share ad a minimum of 200$ i believe. I thought about it. Kicking myself now

Edit: its not a public company so who knows

1

Hopefully they're using kubernetes and can just slap nodes in fairly fast.

13
airgag 13 points ago +13 / -0

Hopefully they are NOT using any Google tech (kubernetes is just another Google tech that pushes BLM on you even if you want to read their docs).

Even if they have their own kubernetes cluster, it's calling home, don't be foolish and Google will nuke them remotely.

7
mango20 7 points ago +7 / -0

I wish I could read docs without being blasted about politics. It’s everywhere now in tech products. Go to Google’s docs about material design and there was a huge black bar across the page talking about BLM. MomentJS changed their masthead to BLM stuff and encourages donating to the MN Freedom Fund. Every project requires you to agree to some code of conduct to contribute. Why not just keep the projects related to the code?

3
prospektor 3 points ago +3 / -0

But - how would you subvert Western society without forced propaganda everywhere?

2
Reefay 2 points ago +3 / -1

Kube is an open source standard that was created by Google. You don't pay any money to use Mine. It's an excellent cluster management tool. I wouldn't throw it out just because it was created by Google. It's open source.

0
airgag 0 points ago +1 / -1

Open Source does not matter shit unless you fork it and audit it. It's open source but controlled by Google, pushing communist BLM agenda written in go which is pushing communist BLM agenda as well.

Any provider public k8s (be it linode or AWS) will boot you the second they get the order from the party.

I agree not everything thate came from Google is shit (TOTP is pretty good simple standard or chromimum browser FORKS like brave or dissent are fine) - that's the power of open source it can be forked and saved from the communist corporations ... until it's forked and maintained independently stay away. Look at Parler.

If you go to their website on mobile it will ask if you want to install an app. It did for me.

Maybe Gab could have Parler pay for some of those servers and they could rent space to host the Parler site too.

You should have seen it in 2016. GAB has come a long way. Worth the wait.

Can't wait until their phone comes out.

That's what we can call a "good problem". 😂

Gab just ensured their own destruction with that Tweet. Fcktards at Twitter are ReeeEEEE'ing at this tweet and like spoiled fcking brats and will demand it be shutdown.

They've been baiting twitter the past two days, it's been pretty funny!

Kek. I'm a unix admin. Poor Torba. I hate weeks like that.

One line I'm more than happy to wait in.

Site seems more usable this afternoon. Let's hope it stays that way. I've always preferred gab over Twitter and parler

I am surprised they haven't added the blurb at the bottom about "The claim of Twitter bleeding users is debated."

Epic.

If an alternative existed for the right, this would be terrible for gab. The left has given us no choice but to wait out their upgrades.

they've had several days to scale up, still get login without the site crashing :/

What is the moral justification of their policy of not having advertisement?

4
TwoStar 4 points ago +4 / -0

Why do they need a moral justification?

3
ikuyas 3 points ago +3 / -0

They should start putting advertisements so that they can make money. It also supports small businesses, and companies that support conservative values. They won't have to spend their ad expense on something they don't want to give money to.

I keep trying to upgrade to Pro and the page won't accept. At least deticate some server space to taking our money!

2
maga_mama_757 [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Me too! I'm like, at least let me give you some money while you work on those servers.
