Actually, I think this proves that people aren't as far apart from each other as they think they are. A lot of this sentiment is echoed here on TD. It's just the order of things we came and identify by that keeps us tribal.
I think the cast majority of conservatives would say they first and foremost identify as free people. With demographics and occupation etc being below that.
I think most liberals desire freedom but would put it before the demographics etc.
It's just the order of the value that is shuffled but there is a path to reaching these people and it's by recording that freedom is the most fundamental characteristic to everything else.
The point I'm trying to make is that a lot of people were making more extreme statements than we were to encourage or incite violence and they were being commended for it while we're being condemned for just being associated with the "wrong" side of the political spectrum.
