There is a form of liberalism that is incredibly appealing and worth keeping around. It's the form that challenged the Bush admin in the 2000s - when many conservatives were being hoodwinked by the Bush family. Sadly this form of liberalism has been overtaken by what you have today, the lunatic fringe (and that is exactly what it is). Candice Owens calls these new "liberals" leftists and I think that's the better term. Traditional liberalism isn't all bad, and has in fact made our society better (calling out gov't spying, check on gov't police powers, some social policies, and created some great art).
This current form of liberalism (which is what I'm sure you are talking about) is a awful.
Compare how Bush got treated by the media and the GOP for the Iraq boondogle (500k+ dead Iraqi civilians; trillions of dollars wasted; no WMDs) vs how Trump got treated for telling his supporters to fight peacefully and patriotically after the election was blatantly stolen through quasi-illegal and completely-illegal means, and no one helped him.
