"Soma" is the name of a seemingly all-purpose drug used in Aldous Huxley's 1932 novel "Brave New World". In the novel, the drug is handed out like candy by the government to control the masses and make them seemingly "happy" and easily manipulated.
I believe our modern day "Soma" is actually "SOcial" + "MediA"...
This latest censorship and purge is the last stage of the brainwashing and mind control through the drug of choice... SOMA... social media. We were breaking the algorithm, so the game plan was accelerated.
Keep marching forward, Pedes. Resist the SOMA.

When I read "Brave New World" in middle school this historical reference information was part of the typical lesson plan. Guess that's no longer the case.
Incredible - thank you for the share!
Second note of interest addendum: Huxley was fascinated by humans' ability to alter their perception and their experience of reality and he was especially interested in psychedelic drugs. "The Doors of Perception" is probably his most accessible work on that topic. Very different from how people write about such things today. Recommended if you like those sorts of old books.
