Never seen these tactics before. I don’t have automatic downloads on and it unsolicited pushed a notification to my phone to update to the new version. I click skip for now. And here is where it got weird. It went to another screen asking me to enter my passcode so that it can automatically update tonight even though I have it off. It appears as if that is the only option for people to access their phone but in very small font, you are able to again skip for later. I have never seen these tactics used before. It seems fishy so wanted to alert people.

14.3. I’m avoiding download for now

I've had 14.3 for two months now. But then I live in Canada, so I wouldn't get the EBS alert either way.

the EBS would be routed through your carrier, just like everywhere else. The software just tell whether to display it or not

Really? I’ve had iPhones for 8 years and have not seen this once

I get those all the time, and there's always a cancel option. Never take patches until the larger herd finds out if it bricks your phone.

They often push out updates for vulnerabilities, too, don't forget.

Apple has been doing that with updates if you don't automatically update for awhile now. Just skip every time.

Android says 'Presidential alerts are mandatory and always turned on'

Happened when my friends mom did the update this morning

There hasn’t been an EBS so how do you know it blocked EBS?

1
BigDaddyPatty 1 point ago +1 / -0

When you do the update it turns off the ebs in your settings without telling you it happened

BlackFolk 1 point ago +1 / -0

Soooo the update doesn’t do anything then? You can just turn it back on? Seems like Irving to get worked up over. Basically just tell people to do as they please and to double check their EBS settings ...

It's not true, it's a 4chan meme being spread here. You can always tell. And the more you call them out, the more they'll spam it, because hurr hurr hurrr.

Same here . Don’t do it . It literally removes the emergency broadcast system

This sounds like the same thing in iOS 13 (which I have).

there is a cancel button or something on the bottom right.

I'm on TDW all the time. We'll find out and post about an EBS before everyone's phone gets it. Just watch and see.

I'm getting update messages on my android. The last time I declined to update it gave me a message that I could only decline 15 times. Never seen that before.

TIP: go to general> iPhone storage > system > delete software update

Same here. I’ll hold off on this one.
