I used to have android, but now use apple. The problem is they are both evil. Android is Google 100%. I'd wait until a linux alternative is available. I know Ubuntu had one years ago but I think it failed. Gab.com is talking about one (the CEO had a pic of a prototype the other day). I'd wait until something like that comes around otherwise you are just switching from a snake to a cockroach...
EDIT: Sorry, I was wrong. The ubuntu phone is out there. Not up to speed on it, or if they track you (ubuntu is a bit sketchy on some of that), but here's a recent article. Good luck!

However, the best you can do is buy a used phone or an older model and not give them extra money for new phones. And then use different aps and service providers for the actual service.
