I can definitely agree with some of those points. They definitely were a "Dan Crenshaw" type platform, but really just served as a scapegoat to avoid confronting the Sec230 issue head on.
They relied 100% on AWS to host their content, which is an understandable move for a new company. But in this game, they had to have seen their own demise coming. Especially after they watched the Gab situation a few years back.
My biggest issue was the usability. The system had all the hallmarks of any bad "new" social media, it tried to reinvent the wheel. The system was dumb, slow and hard to find good content. For example, TD.W is just a copy of reddit, but that's why it works so well. The content is organized and familiar to use.
