Sund says that he asked House and Senate security officials to allow him to request the D.C. National Guard to be on standby in case troops were needed ahead of the pro-Trump protests, but that the officials denied the request.

Capitol Police has a force of 2,200, which is regiment level in the Army

(significantly larger than majority of police depts in US)

Capitol PD answers to Congress, not POTUS, DHS or anyone else.
