I stuck up for Pence all the way until January 6. What he did was disloyal to Trump, to the Constitution, & to the future of our country. Benedict Arnold thought what he did was perfectly right & proper because many of his superiors treated him like crap, but he was a traitor to the entire country, not just to his superiors. Pence no doubt thought he had to be his own man & show Trump that, but he destroyed liberty right along with Trump. Yeah, he got his revenge on Trump, but he's destroyed his country doing it. He will be listed in history books as another Benedict Arnold.
I think the odds are that the simple explanation is the right one (that Pence wants Trump gone), but anything is possible and your theory does explain Trump’s odd comment. I guess all will be clear soon.
