With weapons? I have never seen that in my life. Ok, twice. New Orleans was under martial law during Katrina and the Rodney King riots with the Marines.
I was involved in both events. Not so much LA riots, I did see them roll out but more Katrina.
Back in the late 80's in Germany we never left post without a weapon, we always rolled armed unless we were doing PT. Of course this was in Germany and not the US.
Besides Schweinfurt, and Stuttguart I never served on any other base besides Benning, and only left Benning twice on a pass.

I’ve been to Israel. Lots of hotties with Uzi’s in uniform there. Best deployment ever.
