Back in the late 80's in Germany we never left post without a weapon, we always rolled armed unless we were doing PT. Of course this was in Germany and not the US.
Besides Schweinfurt, and Stuttguart I never served on any other base besides Benning, and only left Benning twice on a pass.

I’ve been to Israel. Lots of hotties with Uzi’s in uniform there. Best deployment ever.
You wouldn't have seen them with Uzi's depending when and where you went you, you would see them with M16'/M4 or Galil/Tavor
