I did that to rock auto once. I bought a part that didn't fit and they wouldn't take the return unless I paid shipping - which would be fine but it was a big part and for me to ship back was going to cost $40 when I paid under $10 when I bought it. My mistake for saying the vehicle seemed to be a light version of the model of truck.
So I ordered another one with a different stock number, then told them it didn't fit and made them eat that return.
And the part I was stuck with I was able to make work but I had to go buy other parts and change a couple of things.
