I used to absolutely hate him for what he did to Japan, but when you read more into the decision making that went into dropping the bomb and the level to which Japan was hunkering down to prepare for a full scale land-war in Japan, it really may have been the lesser of evils.

You're wrong, Japan was defeated, Truman kept it from them that he would spare their emperor. If they would have known that they would have surrendered. We already leveled their cities using napalm. Two nukes did nothing damage wise.
