China was under the control of the KMT during WWII, which was decidedly not communist, and actually fighting a civil war at the same time with the CCP. if Japan were anti-communist they would've sided with the KMT. instead they fought both the KMT and the CCP because their goal was just imperialism and expansion.
also Japan attacked the US because the US was sanctioning them. they had an agreement to buy oil from the US to fund their war machine but then the US backed out of it.
