I'm assuming you don't want a standard phone that just takes and recieved phone calls / texts. Cause the only legit options at this point is either iPhone or Android.
If you really want something that you can sort of control you can find some android phone that you can install a third party ROM. By that I mean installing a version of android that is rooted which doesn't allow Google to control anything on your end.
It's a decent option, you give up a lot of so called "security" but I wouldn't ever do important shit on it like banking unless your a tech geek and understand how to properly secure your own shit.
Without doing all of that every pede should invest (its cheap) into a good VPN. A VPN masks your ip and its definately a good first step into protecting yourself.

I suggest a land line with a rotary Ericson, GPO, or Southwestern Bell.
In a pinch, it can be used as an improvised bludgeoning device. With a good strong phone cord, it also works as a makeshift Kusari-fundo.
