He was impeached for it (1989) and even had an earlier criminal trail(1981-1983). In the criminal case he was acquitted because his co-conspirator refused to testify against him and went to jail because of it. Bill Clinton pardoned the co-conspirator later on(1999).
So after his impeachment he was removed from being a judge, BUT the Senate chose not to apply the option of banning Hastings from holding Federal office. So a mere year later he ran for Sec State in FL and lost the primary. He then ran for a house seat in FL only two years later and won.

If he was impeached (and he was), how was he able to run for office? Federal judges fall under the same rules as the President. If you're impeached you can't run for office afterwards. It can seem confusing but its very simple. The Constitution says that there are two possible punishments. The Senate makes its own rules. They view it like so... A 2/3rds vote convicts. IF convicted a simple majority vote also applies the never hold office again punishment. So the Senate at the time chose to impeach him removing him from office but failed to vote to make his removal permanent.
You see he was one of them. He was one of the elitists. They wanted him to run for office. They need a reliable member of the deep state cabal that would always vote as they're told. These are the very people Q is fighting right now.
See the way they establish loyalty to the cabal is you HAVE TO BE DIRTY. And more importantly one or more of their leaders has to have proof of your illegal or immoral deeds.
