The Left and Dems were seeing huge Trump rallies, which were getting progressively bigger. They can't have that. They have to divide in order to win. Create grievances when none exist.
At first the Dems were reacting to the virus as no big deal, and used it to criticize Trump as usual. But when they saw how effectively the CCP used the virus to quash the Hong Kong protests, it gave them their solution. Notice how it was the Dem governors who locked down first? I remember Inslee and Newsom, and thinking the states were going to fall like dominoes. MSM cheering them on the whole way, with the story of the century.
That and mail in voting were the only way to slow down MAGA and keep a divided society. They cannot stand a united America.

Not likely, the HK protests were shut down by brute force, so you can't claim covid "worked" for that matter.

Could be, to my memory it was just beating and arrests, when a fake city election, more arrests and elected traitors voting in a way mainland wanted.
