As former network mgr, the Azure popularity I would think has more to do with Microsoft owning the corporate network server market (ie Windows NT, Server 2008). Similar ux, skillset required for admins, same sales/support guys, etc...

Pretty much this. I know that the IT department of my company used to "own" their own software. Then Microsoft gave a sweetheart deal for Office 365, where it just wouldn't make sense to run the older non-subscription versions of Office. Next up, to get the most out of Office 365, you use Azure for SSO and Skype for messaging/meetings.

Azure secured contracts with the DoD before they had a public offering. Also why they beat out amazon. Amazon was and still is security second.

I'm not sure I'd call 33% a strangle hold. Its a lot for sure but there are other options. However, the other options are probably just as likely to tell based things to get fucked.

Yep. There is not a single option on that list that is not woke. Although Oracle and IBM are more traditional corporate tech companies.

Yeah, I have the same opinion. I'd be very hesitant about doing anything on either Alibaba or Tencent if it's something that a Chinese company might look into stealing, or wrongthink against the CCP.

AWS and Google have shown they are more than happy to drop someone for wrongthink against the Uniparty. I suspect MSFT and Oracle would do the same. I'm not sure about IBM, but given enough pressure, I suspect they would buckle.

I cancelled all of my Amazon accounts yesterday. -still working on de-Googlizing . . .

Azure takes its customer service advice from the department of motor vehicles, and hence my business with it. Damn, at this point, we should probably use Alibaba or 10 cent, it'll be less monitored than AWS, Google, or azure

I say these of course knowing that these are Chinese companies. At least we know they're Chinese companies, whereas the others pretend not to be

Hopefully, we'll see a shift to decentralized cloud storage this year:

If you don't mind the censorship if you try to engage in wrongthink, AWS makes a lot of sense. Cloud based services are pretty good if you are a lean startup, or you anticipate that you will have a hard time with judging potential future demand.

But, I think that with the actions of Amazon and Google, it gives a lot of ammunition to governments and corporations who know that by using Cloud services, they open themselves up to being cut off if they do something these corporations don't like.

Oracle has a cloud? I work in the cloud (AWS) everyday and never heard of it.
