You have made a reasoned argument, surprised it hasn’t been down voted to oblivion. One of the biggest problems on this website has been a bunch of “magic thinking”:

Realize the later might offend. But each of us has a responsibility to do our best. In hindsight if we had used our own agency, either volunteering or making reasonable discussion with neighbors it could have made a difference. I guilty of not doing enough. It makes me further convinced that COVID was no accident since having us locked up put a natural limit on that personal agency.
