Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. the software and concept are both excellent. Gab is using a fork of mastodon, so if you like that experience, there you go. The concept of federated, independent social media sites, with rules and focus for each site controlled by the community is very smart. We may like Andrew Torba today, but if a social media site is controlled by a single entity, it is vulnerable to internal bias and external attack. networks are naturally resilient. It’s a better model.
