Also, IAM1438 was mentioned in one of the threads talking about the all the military transponders being turned off. It's quite possible Italy sent a tanker because it could mid-air refuel a USAF fighter escort, per the air traffic headed over the Atlantic that MWX pointed out as a possible anomaly last night when he went over the suspension of commercial air traffic in DC, not long before/after IAM1438 took off, according to the website linked in this thread.
