I've seen a lot of people say to use the Brave browser. But I've also seen people say that they do not like the browser. Unsure why, though. In my research, it seems that Brave is just a fork off of Chrome... so basically Chrome with a fancy ad-blocker?
I checked out Gab today and saw they had a browser too... Dissenter... and seems to be open-source.
If you've used or know about these, what are your experiences with these browsers? What do you use (even if not these two)? Why?
I no longer want to support tech companies that disrespect we the people, America and its values at large.
Bonus for any other advice regarding replacing tech services elsewhere, such as email, cloud storage, VPN. Thanks for reading! :)
Brave has been good to me for a few years now.
Dissenter by Gab, or Brave.
However, both are chromium-based browsers, based on Google Chrome but not controlled by Google.
I thought firefox was one of the good ones. Is that not the case?
Not the case
They've been supporting woke trash for some time, if I am not mistaken. And most recently, they said in a blog post that "more than deplatforming" needs to be done:
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2021/01/08/we-need-more-than-deplatforming/
While their points about advertising I can get behind, it is this point in particular that is worrisome:
You know they mean MSM and liberal narratives when they say "amplify factual voices." And what does "by default" mean? Meaning that your tech services will automatically filter out information that THEY deem as "disinformation"? Do I get a say in the matter of whether or not I want such filtering?
I do not need tech protecting me online. That's me and my brain's job.
Opera + duckduckgo also with the size of usb today, no one needs cloud storage. also when you install any software or windows, make sure you're not sending info to microsoft.by default they capture absolutely everything you do including cancelled types, your desktop is on the cloud, etc.Photoshop and Office do the same.
What do you do in regards to storage if you do not use cloud storage? I have lots of work files I need stored and accessible from multiple points. I also just have a lot of hobby photography. I could store them on external harddrives... but I guess I would need more than one in case one stops working to avoid data loss.
welcome to informatics basics. You can carry an usb on you, have usb drives everywhere you go, either SSd or sticks ,etc. And it's your responsibility to backup your data on a local drive either automatically or manually. The data spys and sensors want you to rely on this tiny bit of convenience ( access to data from everywhere without carrying it ) in order to get ALL your data.
Regarding local and external drives, do you have any suggestions in regards to brands with a good track record (or perhaps just ones to avoid)? I had a Western Digital for 8 years before it crapped out. I know drives don't last forever, but I was disappointed with losing it, especially since I used it as infrequent backup and never really read much off of it.
And regarding automatically backing up to a drive, is there any programs in particular you recommend? I haven't considered automation... I always figured it had to be something I would manually need to do.
Thanks again for your suggestions and advice.
