Maybe it was quid pro quo. They only put up token resistance to ACB, knowing Roberts is in their pocket anyway, and in exchange the Repubs look the other way when they commit massive fraud and steal the presidency. Win-win for those people anyway, because Trump was fouling up their gravy train.
