It was a good movie, but the premise is legally flawed. A murder on Wednesday of the same guy on Friday is not dependent on the accuracy of the case in either event and constitutes two separate allegations, so don't try and apply this to real life.

Yes. Ashley Judd's husband frames her for his murder (so he can fun off with his mistress.) She is convicted. She serves her time, then hunts him down and kills him. She can't be prosecuted again for his murder....so she gets away with it.
