To me it's starting to look like decentralized social media alternatives are the only solution to the problem we're having of censorship. People are hopping onboard with Parler and others, but what happens when they turn corrupt? It's not hard to imagine. Our online discussions should not be controlled by a handful of people, even if it's the saint-level guys running TD. I want to see people move toward platforms that are basically uncontrolled and hosted in some way like torrents or cryptocurrencies. IRC chat is another good example. So basically no one can shut it down. Anyone aware of anything that looks promising in this area? And do you agree or do you see problems with a decentralized platform?

So long as "they're a private company, they can do what they want" remains an excuse then we'll always run the risk of them turning corrupt.

That said, having a government mandated platform would be worse no matter how much they promised to keep it unbiased.

The best option is to remove or rework CDA 230 to prevent these platforms from infringing on the 1A, basically holding private companies to the same standards the government and citizens have to uphold.
