Well, we can. And we do. Corporations have displaced the government of the United States. It's only recently that they're so strong that the mask has come off and the oligarchs have announced themselves openly.
Whether things stay like that is the question.
When carving a sculpture the artist prefers to start fresh. The United States is a carved, it's difficult to begin with that. Preference is to start with the blank block of marble and begin fresh. Thus the push we've seen for the corporate oligarchs to tear down every statue, eliminate from public memory any notions of freedom the country were framed on. Taint the entertainment legacy, make people feel revulsion to national sports football, basketball, baseball. Sour loved series Star Wars or James Bond. Bezos will have torn down statues preserved and put a few on display in his estates, of course, but for the rest of us start clean as though it didn't happen. Rewrite the history of the country beginning with slavery in 1619 and its arc of struggle terminates in the final defeat of the evil white Nazi's, in 2021. CIA even discarded reference to 'United States' in their new logo already. You'll have noted DNC imagery showing the EU flag instead. The TPP/TISA/TTIP structure shifted sovereign power to corporate structures away from nations. Territorial sovereignty handed over to corporations for functional sovereignty. New world with corporate leaders as warlord over their own fiefdoms, with arms companies supplying opposing sides.
How much is realistic or plans fall apart. Who knows. Positioning into key industries for the future such as supplying space mining and exploration is a good bet.
Mutually assured destruction scenario to result in continuation of some form of the United States rebirthed on new mission and direction for the next generation, alongside the megacorps, is a goal you see talked about.
You see the nutter technocrat aging hippy boomer at the peak of their money and power literally trying to bring the age of aquarius new world of complete openness and transparency, which requires destruction of the United States to announce its arrival, with smart city futurist utopia/dystopia with monitoring of every inch bristling with security dogs and citizen scores.
The shows in the coliseums always got bigger. Are you entertained?
EU used economic bindings to lash together countries into that project hiding the authoritarian politburo dictates at its core until constituent countries started to figure out they were stuck and functional sovereignty had been transferred to Brussels. Previously independent states were suddenly denied having a say in their immigration policies or determination of who could fish in their waters. Accomplished far more control over the continent than Germans under Hitler was able to accomplish by military means.
An analysis of how TPP/TISA/TTIP fit together looked similar to the stranglehold of international trade deal that over time tethered together EU. Looked like the next step toward one larger global entity. Hence the complete lack of transparency trying to prevent the public from reading those agreements. Corporations were empowered and minted as new royalty. There's a blending of corporate and government lines at the highest levels of a state. The wooing and sunshine campaign has been focused at that corporate level it would seem. I don't know absolutely what intentions are, but I find arguments to that effect persuasive. I've seen argument that the Bezos and Zuckerface of the world would prefer to operate under an EU style politburo rather than by bound by the slow and time consuming constraints of the checks and balances in America.
Total speculation for my own amusement (not backed by anything what follows is spit-balling): Twelve stars vs Twenty Two stars. I presume Canada, US, Australia, Chile, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Chile, some blend of the TPP countries representing the additional 10 stars.

From that viewpoint, when I see the DNC debates broadcast symbolism like this that looks surprisingly similar to the EU flag like this, have to wonder if they're just fucking with us when it's that transparent.
