I understand this is important...But, is it more important than pardoning Assange or signing IA?

Can you pardon someone who's not been convicted? Is he even a US citizen?

JimmyJam 75 points ago +75 / -0

trump could pardon every person from all federal crimes regardless of conviction or not - if he wanted - his pardon power is extensive.

He isn't a US citizen, but he may be extradited to the US. "A judge in London on Monday (Jan 3rd) rejected an American effort to have the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange extradited to the United States, where he faces charges."

he can pardon anyone he wants - doesn't have to be a us citizen

Wait, this is some Mandela level bullshit. I could have sworn Assange was extradited to the U.S. last year.

If he pardoned Assange then there's no way he'd be allowed to return home.

A president can pardon for future crimes as long as you do it in a place covered by US law. It's to prevent retaliation by a hostile congress or state.

He's not a US citizen, but the POTUS can pardon anyone involved in a federal crime case, regardless of their citizenship. And yes, a president can preemptively pardon someone who has not been convicted of a crime.

Not federal

Proda 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yes you can, if you are POTUS.

Pardon has extensive power and so far has only been limited by the fact it cannot pardon from an ongoing impeachment.

He can only pardon federal charges, not state ones though, Dems could still be super petty and try to indict him in NY for some made up bullshit.

Pelosi has already stated how they will go after him in New York State. This is one of the reasons why I think Trump needs to and will hit them hard. When he leaves office (2024) the federal government (through the states) will go after him, his family, and his businesses. They will have no mercy and will try to ruin all of them. Same for anyone else who has anything to do with him.

we know they will

Proda 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's the scary part, because it will only fuel tensions.

2
Pukeahontas 2 points ago +2 / -0

That’s exactly what the bitch ass DAs like Lequisha James plan to do

Proda -1 points ago +1 / -2

And that would be extremely short sighted and stupid. Would mean it would be open season (for weaponized law) on democrats in red states as well.

UK refuses to extradite him to the US.

5
HanAssholeSolo 5 points ago +5 / -0

They will if they get a President who will put Assange in GITMO or the electric chair.

diamondsword 4 points ago +4 / -0

Biden

2
jubyeonin 2 points ago +2 / -0

Maybe. Either way, it's a win for the Dems. They get rid of Assange and deflect blame to Trump for capturing him or they free him and the commies use that to say they support freedom of the press.
