Can you pardon someone who's not been convicted? Is he even a US citizen?

trump could pardon every person from all federal crimes regardless of conviction or not - if he wanted - his pardon power is extensive.

He isn't a US citizen, but he may be extradited to the US. "A judge in London on Monday (Jan 3rd) rejected an American effort to have the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange extradited to the United States, where he faces charges."

Wait, this is some Mandela level bullshit. I could have sworn Assange was extradited to the U.S. last year.

If he pardoned Assange then there's no way he'd be allowed to return home.

To Australia?

Anywhere. They'd find a reason to charge him in the UK.

A president can pardon for future crimes as long as you do it in a place covered by US law. It's to prevent retaliation by a hostile congress or state.

He's not a US citizen, but the POTUS can pardon anyone involved in a federal crime case, regardless of their citizenship. And yes, a president can preemptively pardon someone who has not been convicted of a crime.

Not federal

Yes you can, if you are POTUS.

Pardon has extensive power and so far has only been limited by the fact it cannot pardon from an ongoing impeachment.
