Somebody told me years ago that it all goes back to the depraved influence of Melvil Dewey, the prototypical "male feminist" (with all that the scare quotes entail).
No offense, it is what it is. I was a cool librarian, treated the 'patrons' like valued customers. Loathed working with the union mentality types and the 'muh degree' sort.
