They are overwhelmingly republican, but a lot of them choose not to vote. The democrats on the other hand can get all of their supporters to vote in their elections and for their candidates.
I believe from official estimates 35% of the country is republican to 27% democrat, with the remaining being another party or apolitical.
The biggest issue the republicans have is overcoming voter apathy. The biggest problem the democrats have is getting enough power to successfully cheat while not arousing suspect.
