That's not normal for a registrar to do that unless it's a premium name being sold off intentionally. Usually it's "Someone owns this domain already, but here's where and how you can make them an offer." Not "This domain is available!"

Either way, corrected. But a horrible way of announcing that things are down for maintenance, couldn't do like a static splash page or something?

Yeah, the domain thing is screwy. It's probably got a "parked" flag set to true somewhere. The downtime happens when you flip a switch expecting something to work and it instead takes everything down. The massive jump in traffic on their site is a sys admin's best dream and worst nightmare at the same time. Best dream in that everyone wants what they're building to succeed. Worst nightmare in that I doubt they're sleeping much over there.

HA yup. Nah, they aren't, and neither is their InfoSec team right now (if they have one). Can confirm, am a sysadmin.

Though, with how quickly this happened after the maintenance started, it has me questioning their TTL settings.....

Well, I think they've been under constant maintenance ever since President Trump was banned from twatter.

Holy shit! Check out their status page! They've had quite a few downtime events in the past few days and their response times have gone through the roof. As exciting as it would be, I'm so glad I'm not there.
