Don't really see any other path forward. Right now there are two americas a conservative america and a liberal one. The rift between the two is getting larger not smaller. Their sizes are comparable so none can crush the other completely, and there is not will whatsoever on either side bridge the divide, so what else is there?
How the fuck are you supposed to unify if one side refuses? Lefties don't want to unify or compromise, they want to control. What fucking difference does it make if my country loses power when I don't have any power in the existing state?
