This was a required read for us in highschool lmao. That wasn’t long ago either.
I'll tell you why it's still being taught. I'm a teacher. You were forced to read it because public teachers are deluded enough to believe that they are the resistance and conservatives are Big Brother. So from their perspective, they're teaching students how to resist the Right.

They do this with all of the dystopian novels, but I find the mental gymnastics around it the most spectacular regarding 1984, since INGSOC is literally “English Socialism.”...
