No, we split along the lines of red states vs blue states. Red states are pretty much one solid continuous land mass, blue states would separate into three separate countries.

The Federal Government would be set up to buy any property of anyone switching sides at fair market value. There would be a 6 month transition period so people could move and then the divorce would be complete.

Idk what you mean about splitting a state into 3 countries but I think it would be better to just have everyone move to different sides instead of splitting individual states into parts.

Red is for us, blue is for them. You can drive between all of the red states, so one country. The blue is a bit more isolated, so harder for them to have a country that way, so they may end up being 2 or 3 countries instead.
