I think part of the issue is that the black community lives heavily in urban areas. This means they're surrounded by many, many people. It's sad but a reality for urban dwellers that conformity is a must because mob mentality rules and outsiders are quelled. Living practically shoulder to shoulder with people who can fck you up at any time kinda makes conformity a necessity for many. And with only one side being loud this entire time, that kinda snowballed things, imo.
I'd imagine a form of coerced conformity leads to a form of self gasI ighting in the long term..... But, that being said, I reckon us speaking out and speaking back is helping.
